No need to ruin our entrance like they did with Lindisfarne. The school can change the entrance where pupils arrive/leave to a safer location and tell their parents not to do u-turns at our entrance.
Most of their parents do the u-turns inside our estate anyway so it won't solve any problems but will add more problems for our estate.
No need for this at all the entrance to our estate has absolutely nothing to do with the school. They need to monitor the car drops off some other way and perhaps move the entrance to the school
I have been a resident in Ashwood estate for over 45 years and as you know when you were living in that area, today things have changed so much I very much welcome all the work at the enterprise centre ,shops and the new safe crossing at the church area and road works the area is looking very well now.
How ever i very strongly object to the narrowing of the entrance and exit from the Ashwood road estate, i know this is a request from the traffic person who is looking after the children crossing at Tolbut school and Tolbut school management and NOT from any resident in Ashwood, this proposed work is to stop cars doing a you turning on the main road to go back up to the manor road, at the moment children are been dropped off and all the cars park on both sides of the Ashwood road as well as this we also have a doctor surgery also known as a medical center and all the patient's park on the right side of the road as you enter the estace.
I would suggest that the school traffic person move up to one of the 3 safe crossings that have been installed after the new road design, this proposed work is only to facilitate a few drivers and parents who are breaking the rules of the road and doing a you turn on a main road and could not be bothered there A?? to drive a few meters away from the school at a much safer part of the road to make a turn.
I hope you can talk and council and explain that this work is unnecessary and not wanted and will be strongly objected by all in the Ashwood estate residents/
Please do not make these changes to the entrance road to Ashwood estate. A certain number of irresponsible parents create this hazardous junction at school drop off and collection times. Narrowing the road further is not an 'improvement'. It will create more congestion and risk hazards for pedestrians. Driver behaviours should be addressed, not the junction.
You only have to look at the grass verges beside Lealand and and the shops to see evidence of what happens when corners are tightened. The verges are destroyed. Service vehicles cannot enter or exit safely. Narrowing corners creates a new risk for pedestrians that wasn't there previously with some vehicles having to mount the verges to exit.
The construction standard of the recent works around the shops is very poor and the road and paths are now prone to flooding when it rains. Another new challenge the didn't exist previously.
As a long term resident of Ashwood, I can see absolutely no value in the above proposal.
